What is Reiki
The “aura” is an unseen energy that flows through all living things. It is connected directly to the quality of health of the being. Energy Healing involves direct application of Chi for strengthening the clients' energy system (aura). Chi is the term used by the Chinese mystics and martial artists for the underlying force which makes up the Universe. Ancient cultures understood and acknowledged this life force's presence. Mystics of all cultures have spoken about the physical universe that is made of an underlying form of something. Research in modern physics is now unveiling it. The existence of this "life force energy" has been verified through recent scientific experiments. Medical doctors are into consideration of its role in the functioning of the immune system and the healing process.
Reiki is the technique of tapping into ones "life force energy" for a harmonious balance between the body and mind. The ability to use Reiki is not taught rather is transferred to the student by the Reiki Master. Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development. It is therefore is available to everyone. It has successfully been taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.
Reiki had its origin in Japan and the term "Rei" means "universal" wheras "Ki" maens "life force energy."
Rei - Spiritual Wisdom
The most widely accepted definition of the word Rei in general is universal. The kanji ideograms have many levels of meaning that vary from mundane to the highly esoteric. Rei can be interpreted as universal which indicates its presence everywhere. This level of interpretation really doesn't contribute to our understanding of Reiki.
Research into the esoteric meaning of the Japanese kanji character for Rei has given a much deeper understanding of this ideogram. The word Rei as used in Reiki is more accurately interpreted as supernatural knowledge or spiritual consciousness. This wisdom comes from God or the Higher Self. It is God-Consciousness which is a widely accepted fact. Each person's problem along with its cause is clearly perceived. It even possesses the healing solution.
Ki - The Life Force Energy
Ki is similar to Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian. It is also called odic force, orgone and bioplasma. These are the various other names associated with it which have been given by various cultures that are aware of it.
Ki, the life force energy or the vital life force can be described as the nonphysical energy that resides in all living things. During the life span of any living being it possesses a life force that circulates and surrounds through it. When the life force leaves the body it is then termed as death. When the life force is low or there is a restriction in its flow one is more vulnerable to illness and to its contrary when it is high and flows freely, one is less likely to get sick. Life force plays an important role in everything done. Along with animating the body it is also the primary energy of emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.
The old cultures understood Aura or what is called as Chi in Chinese. They have studied it for thousands of years and have discovered many different kinds of Chi. The "Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine" which is over 4,000 years old, lists thirty-two different kinds of Chi or Ki.
Ki is used by martial artists during their physical training and mental development. It is also used in meditative breathing exercises called Pranayama. The shamans of all cultures use it for divination, psychic awareness, manifestation and healing. Ki is the nonphysical energy used by all healers and present around us which can be accumulated and guided by the mind.
Reiki is Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy
It is the Spiritual wisdom called Rei . It guides the life force called Ki and practically is called Reiki. Reiki therefore can be defined as a spiritually guided life force energy.
Reiki though is spiritual in nature yet is not a religion. Reiki doesn't depend on belief and would work leaving apart your faith in it. It is so because Reiki comes from God. The use of Reiki puts one in touch with the experience of their religion rather than a mere intellectual concept of it. |
