Homeopathy Remedies - Root and Usage
Homeopathic remedies are derived from plants, animals, minerals, metals, acids, alkalies, venoms and diseased human tissues. Homeopaths took over the pharmacopoeia of the herbalist in many countries and cultures although homeopathic medicines do not resemble herbal medicines in any way. Since the fundamental understanding of diseases is significantly different therefore the fundamental approach to prescription is significantly different too.
Homeopathic remedies are manufactured through a multi-step process of serial dilution and succussion through which the inner medicinal power of the base substance is released or increased. The higher the dilution, more powerful the remedy.
The Process
Human beings are organisms of body, mind and spirit that function in total harmony (homeostasis). A healthy organism strives to keep itself healthy and if injured tries to repair the damage.
During the process of self-correction, the body produces certain symptoms. These do not resemble signs of ill health to a homeopath. These are rather indications of the healing process. Symptoms act as a guide for appropriate remedy, the healing procedure and the ongoing treatment and assessment.
Symptoms show the disturbances in the body patterns and homeopathic medicine addresses these disturbances.
Homeopathic Remedies – Usage
Self-care with homeopathy for moderate or short-term illnesses and injuries can be quite effective. An appropriate chosen remedy works efficiently to relieve discomfort and helps the body in healing itself without toxicity or side-effects. In case of chronic or serious illness, it is advisable to consult an experienced practitioner for a remedy.
The first step involves observing the patient, taking note of the strongest and most unusual symptoms along with the individual's response to illness. Associated parameters that relieve or aggravate the symptoms (motion, temperature, light, noise etc.) or the person’s emotional and mental state should be taken into account too.
When a remedy’s pattern of action is similar to the person’s response to stress or illness, it can help the natural defences overcome the problems more efficiently.
Additional doses of remedy should be given according to the patients response and not merely by a pre-set schedule. Intense or painful situations may require more frequent repetitions.
Lower potencies (6X, 6C, 12X, 12C, 30X, 30C) are the most appropriate for non-professional self-care situations. A 30 will often act more quickly and deeply than a 6 and needs fewer repetitions. High potencies (past 30C) should only be used by those with formal homeopathic training. However, a more developed knowledge of the remedies is required for an accurate prescription.
Homeopathy Remedies - Under Professional Guidance
Homeopathic remedies are even helpful for complex and serious conditions. An experienced physician well trained in homeopathy should be involved in such circumstances. Medical knowledge along with professional diagnostic tests are required to access complex or serious conditions.
Even during an appropriate remedy, a temporary aggravation of symptoms may occur as part of the healing process. Distinguishing a helpful aggravation from an intensification of symptoms requires sufficient experience and training.
An inexperienced or impatient person might be tempted to repeat a remedy or switch to other remedies when it is appropriate to wait some time for necessary results.
If an illness is chronic or deep-seated, a “constitutional” remedy is suggested that fits the characteristic symptoms along with considering the person’s physical condition and individual nature in a more comprehensive way. |
