Using Oils
Inhalation:
Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to hot boiling water. Inhale the steam which helps in opening the skin pores. Thus more oil gets absorbed along with an additional benefit of facial. The bowl containing the hot water and the aroma oil if left under bed would work as a room freshener.
Diffusers:
Fill the cup of a diffuser with water along with few drops of essential oils. Light a candle or a lamp.
Evaporation takes place once the water and oil heat. The whole atmosphere is filled with aromatic scent.
Vaporisers:
Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to used mats and lit them electrically. The area will soon be filled with soothing aroma.
Lemon or rosemary are beneficial for offices, lavender for bedroom, antiseptic tea-tree for disinfecting a sick room and citronella for repelling the insects.
Massage:
Massage is the common form of treatment because of its dual benefits of touch therapy and scent therapy. The penetration of essential oils is high during massage.
Massage improves blood circulation, tones the muscles, detoxifies and releases trapped energy from tense muscles. The fragrance triggers a pleasurable sense.
The aroma oils should never be used without diluting with carrier oils. Add 10 drops or 1 teaspoon of essential oil to 30 ml of carrier oil. It would make a very rejuvenating massage oil.
Baths:
Add a few drops of essential oil to the bathtub and stir the water well. Spend 20 minutes in the tub. The aroma oil enters the body through the skin which gives a long lasting benefit.
The essential oils can also be added to a bucket of water instead of a bathtub. Stir the water properly because some aroma oils are insoluble in water.
Foot Bath:
Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to luke warm water in a bowl. Immerse your feet in the bowl. It is very refreshing after a hard day's work. Foot bath is extremely helpful for sweaty and smelly feet too.
Potpourri:
A few drops of essential oil added to potpourri in a bowl gives a continuous aromatic fragrance for 4-6 weeks.
A more effective method can be adopted by keeping the potpourri mixture along with the added essential oil in a closed container overnight. Open the box the following morning. The area would fill with lingering aroma.
Bed Time:
Sprinkle 2-3 drops on the pillow cover or on a tissue which can be placed under the pillow or cushion cover. Inhale before or while sleeping. It is very useful for headaches, stress, tension and in boosting up confidence. Some of the essential oils act as an aphrodisiac too.
Compresses:
Hot Compress:
Add 2-3 drops of aroma oil to a bowl of hot warm water. Dip a hand towel or piece of cotton in the bowl. Squeeze the excess water and place the towel or cotton on the area to be treated. A compress of 2 hours on the affected area is very beneficial. Lavender oil is generally used. Excellent relief is provided when hot compress is applied over bruises, skin problems and premenstrual syndromes.
Cold Compress:
Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to a bowl containing 6 cubes of ice. Dip a hand towel or a piece of cotton and squeeze excess water. Place the towel or cotton on the area to be treated. Cold compress is essentially helpful in treating burns, sore feet, hangover, sprains and headaches.
Oral Intake:
Some oils can be taken internally in prescribed dosage for very specific problems like indigestion. They should be consumed only under the supervision of a qualified therapist..
Beauty Treatment:
Essential oils can safely be incorporated in facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, scalp treatment, hair wash, hair treatment along with other creams and oils. Steam facials along with essential oils are rejuvenating and greatly improve the skin texture. |
